About the Town

letecký snímek

Mladá Boleslav is a town with a rich history and highly developed industry. The earliest history of the town dates back to the second half of the 10th century when, under the rule of Boleslav II, Přemyslide settlement Nový Boleslav was established and it survived until the year 1262. In more than a thousand-year history of the town there were periods of growth and decline. From the end of the 15th century to the beginning of the 17th century the town was an important centre of the Union of Bohemian Brethren, which favourably influenced the system of education, architecture and the quality of social life.

In the 19th century the construction of railway, roads and the construction of the factory Laurin and Klement was very important for further development of the town.

They first started with the production of bicycles and motorcycles and in the year 1905 they manufactured the first Czech car. In the year 1925 the company merged with ŠKODA plants and today it is an important part of Volkswagen Group. It was the history and the presence of the car company that contributed to the fame of the town even abroad.
